Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting San Sebastián, Spain, a city of 200,000 in the northern part of the country, 20km from the French border. Best known for its gastronomy, the city of roughly 200,000 is the 4th-largest in the autonomous Basque Country, a largely rural region infamously known its mystifying language, of which has no known family members, and more recently, for the former separatist group, ETA.

These days, however, it is best known for its culinary wonders, and the city has more Michelin Stars than Paris (city population 2.2 million/urban area 12.2 million), giving it the highest amount of Michelin Stars per-capita, anywhere in the world. With a picturesque setting on the Bay of Biscay, an out of this world food scene centered around pintxos (Basque tapas), and charming, sandstone buildings from the 1880s and 1890s, San Sebastián is a worthwhile stop for anybody passing through Spain.
