Summertime in LA

Couldn’t think of a better time to love – and hate – my city. For me, it’s a very special time: where the air is warm and inviting, the opposite sex wearing little to nothing, and a syrupy slow, laid back vibe and atmosphere that as a whole comes off as being accepting, welcoming and open to new things. It, too, is laziness; days spend doing nothing; the beach, and the corresponding culture; authentic, knock-out tacos, tortas, burritos and aguas frescas from taco trucks in gritty ethnic neighborhoods; art galleries and wine tastings and other happenings in Downtown, Echo Park and Silverlake; the tanned women, of olive and cinnamon hues, and their raging hormones and overt “friendliness;" bike rides in the earliest – or latest – of hours, enjoyed in the company of your craziest friends. Yeah, sounds like summer to me, with the exception of a few things…

Of course, I’d also be silly to think summer also would be the same without the non-stop stifling heat, mind-numbing traffic or the little knuckleheads being let out of their cages; leading to even more restlessness in ‘da hood. Can’t forget getting bogged down in the usual bureaucratic molasses, either...though a part of me thinks that is year-round and isn’t unique or indigenous to summer.

So long summer in Taco City; we had a good run together – see you next year, at least I think so anyways.
